February 2009:
Harrison Kleeman & MIller
The Harrison Center paired art and law in a new exhibit, Harrison, Kleeman & Miller. Actually, our First Friday event began with a pre-reception and continuing legal education (CLE) session at 5pm on art and law led by local attorney Sally Zweig of Katz & Korin. The evening continued with a great show—and the Harrison Center’s usual big, vibrant crowd.
Artists David Kleeman and Mark Alan Miller together make a strong case for art. Kleeman’s art defends the odd and the strange and brings light to the exotic and crazed. Miller’s art searches for clues to create a case for his objects’ importance and value in a used-up world.
Also featured in February:
In Gallery No. 2: Cargo, new work by Toni Hook. An exhibit of over 20 paintings using shipping pallets as the canvas. The raw material paired with characteristically American images reflect an unrefined America. Through bold colors and aggressive brushwork, people and ideas become the freight.
In Hank & Dolly’s Gallery: Magnetic Aesthetic, new work by Tre Reising. This work embodies Reising’s investigation of the relationship between paintings and drawings and sculpture. The paintings are reminiscent of playgrounds and are composed of materials that range from industrial building supplies to yarn.
The exhibition and our First Friday opening were made possible with support from Alerding Castor, Rule1.1, the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Indiana Arts Commission, Amy McAdams Graphic Design, and Indy’s Music Channel.
