July 2009: Stars and Stripes and Whatever
Artist reception Friday, July 3, 6-9 p.m.
We're celebrating our own strange brand of Americana with a First Friday show orchestrated on the fly by our interns. The centerpiece is a group show in Hank and Dolly's Gallery called Stars and Stripes or Whatever. It features new work by four emerging local artists using several mediums: Jeff Geesa, Audra McClelland, Jenny Ollikainen, and Diego Yanto.
Visitors should expect a laid-back summer barbeque party with sparklers, sprinklers, fractured acoustic music by The No-Ops, and grilling under the stars.
The artists in Stars and Stripes or Whatever offer unconventional takes on familiar motifs, documentation of alternative moments in our national history and visual observations from young explorers of Planet America.
More Craft Mafia
The Craft Mafia show from June continues in the same main gallery. The Craft Mafia is a group of local artisans known for muscling unsuspecting bystanders into ecstasy with positively to-die-for jewelry, mixed media and related finery.
In the Annex
And artwork by Jill Marie Mason, Herron Printmaking MFA is featured in the Annex alongside pieces by local talents Scott Grow, Kipp Normand and NERS. The artwork hangs through July 25.
Special Thanks
