BOOK CLUB August 6, 6-9pm

In the Harrison Gallery - The Harrison Center and Herron Art Library of the IUPUI University Library present the 3rd annual book art group show; Across from the Harrison Gallery - Bill and Vicky Stewart of Vamp & Tramp Booksellers, LLC, 6:30 p.m. In Gallery No. 2 - obsession_desire - recent work by Jeffrey Morton, Elizabeth Tubergen and Nathan Foxton; In Hank & Dolly's Gallery - Timeline Art by Herron High School students; In the Gymnasium and Underground - Natural Awakenings presents the Natural Living Fair (Natural Living Fair continues on Saturday, August 7th from 10am to 4pm.)  Book Club, obsession_desire and Herron High School Timeline Art hangs through August 27th. Gallery hours M-F 9-5.

July Show:
Old & New

In July, the Harrison Center presented Old & New, featuring "old" work by artists who have shown here before and "new" artists who have never exhibited at the Harrison Center.  See images from the show.  In the Gallery Annex, the Viewfinder Project presented student photography from The Oaks Academy and LifeBridge Community. 

 

June Show:
IMAF

The 9th annual Independent Music + Art Festival was a great day of continuous music from 12 bands on two stages in the Harrison Center courtyard and over 80 vendors inside and outside with the Indieana Handicraft Exchange

March Show:
Food Con

On March 5, the Old Northside was teeming with “foodies,” as they made their way to Food Con, an unconventional convention. In a joint project between the Harrison Center for the Arts and the Indiana Humanities Council’s Food for Thought program, Food Con was a first-of-its-kind showcase and exploration of the art and culture of food in Indianapolis. October Show:
Jason Dorsey

In October, the Harrison Gallery and IPS presented watercolor paintings by  Jason Dorsey.  Dorsey, a Seattle native, uses a crisp and bold watercolor technique, cultivated over decades as he painted the Pacific Northwest, to explore both the beauty and brokenness of Indianapolis. Mythellaneous

The Harrison Center and Emberwood Center presented Mythellaneous. In Gallery No. 2 - the Myths of Addiction with work by Austin Dickson, Elyce Elder, Mark Alan Miller and Kipp Normand.  In the Harrison Gallery, Medical Myths with work by Jeremy Efroymson, Ani Ziemniak, Austin Dickson and Erin K. Drew.  In Hank & Dolly's Gallery - Growing Spaces, new work by Maren Bell.

Bookish

July Show:
Stars and Stripes or Whatever

We celebrated our own strange brand of Americana with a show orchestrated on the fly by our interns. The centerpiece was a group show in Hank and Dolly's Gallery called Stars and Stripes or Whatever. It featured new work by four emerging local artists using several mediums: Jeff Geesa, Audra McClelland, Jenny Ollikainen, and Diego Yanto. (Get the whole story.)

June Show:
Independent Music + Art Festival

In June, the Harrison Center for the Arts hosted the 8th annual Independent Music + Art Festival.  This year, in addition to the courtyard filled with art and music, the Indieana Handicraft Exchange joined in with over 70 vendors inside the HCA.  Find out more here.

Garden Party

In May, the Harrison Center for the Arts (and our friends at Becker Landscape and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful) presented Garden Party – an artist reception and open studio night. Find out more here.

 

April Show:
Cairns

This exhibit was part of an ongoing series that explores the various shapes and forms of cairns - human-made mounds of stone. Susan Hodgin, an avid traveler, has been collecting images of cairns from as far away as Honduras to Fountain Square. These images have provided the inspiration for this body of work. Mind The Gap

Entrepreneurial artists and educators came together to create a public conversation relating to the education achievement gap in Mind the Gap, featuring new work by Herron School of Art faculty members Anila Agha, Flounder Lee, Jennie Mynhier, and Lesley Baker and the Harrison Center’s Artur Silva. Harrison Kleeman & Miller

Artists David Kleeman and Mark Alan Miller together make a strong case for art. Kleeman's art defends the odd and the strange, brings light to the exotic and crazed. Miller's art searches for clues to create a case for his objects' importance and value in a used up world. Get the whole story.

Symphonies & Dirges: New Work by Emma OVerman

Overman is a distinctive, successful illustrator with four picture books in her portfolio — one of which was featured on a White House Christmas tour. She’s won international design competitions. We’re happy she’s working at the Harrison Center for the Arts, and her recent exhibition was a bright spot in our winter. Get the whole story.
