| Meet the 2024 Greatriarchs⎜ Captain Kimberly Young
|
The Harrison Center is excited to announce the completion of 12 new Greatriarch paintings by artist Tashema Davis. The Greatriarchs are long-term residents who helped write their neighborhood story. They remind us that every neighbor has a story that deserves to be heard.
"Captain Kimberly Young has led a rich and fulfilling life, marked by a journey that culminated in her dream occupation. Upon hearing her narrative, it became evident that Faith Ringgold's artistic style perfectly encapsulates the essence of this remarkable individual. The painted quilt squares symbolize the stepping stones in Captain Young's life journey. The vibrant hues employed carry a dual significance. Firstly, they reflect a love for color, and secondly, they embody her enduring spirit and zest for adventure. Deliberately choosing blue as the predominant color, mirroring her attire during the interview and symbolizing her role as a law enforcement officer, underscores her dedication and ambition. Captain Young's innate inclination towards service and her altruistic nature shines through in her genuine desire to assist and uplift others." - Artist Tashema Davis

Hello, my name is Kateri Cutsinger. I grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from IU Bloomington in May 2023 with a Media BA in Film, TV, and Digital production. I began my time on the Harrison Center team in May as a 10-week intern. I learned more about the Harrison Center and was offered a 12-month fellowship in events coordination!
During my time here, I have focused on organizing and planning events throughout our building and galleries. Our events range from weddings to corporate events to birthday celebrations and many more. One of the main events I focus on during my fellowship is organizing Art Dish dinners. This monthly dinner centers around the featured artist in the Harrison Gallery, with community members and patrons attending as guests to learn more about the artist and their work. I work closely with artists, staff, neighbors, and patrons and am dedicated to fostering community involvement and creating memorable experiences at the Harrison Center through events.

Discover Megan Jefferson's Latest Mural |
The Harrison Center is excited to share a new mural by Harrison Center artist Megan Jefferson located at 1811 N Meridian St, right across from the Red Line Stop. This project was made possible thanks to the generous support an anonymous donor who provided funding for the mural, Jimmy's Nails, who donated the wall space, and Little Red Door for the use of the parking lot during installation.
The artwork incorporates a stunning view of the Indianapolis skyline framed by vibrant Milkweed at sunset, inspired by the salon's exquisite arrangement of soft gradients in purples and pinks. Learn more about this mural from the artist on our blog. |
