Meet Maya Bhagwat
Hi! My name is Maya Bhagwat, and I am a Graphic Design Intern at the Harrison Center for 10 weeks. I am a rising sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington, where I study Marketing, Digital and Social Media Business Applications, and International Business with a minor in Fashion Media.
Growing up, I always had a creative hobby; these included oil painting, sewing, and ceramics. One day, I started scrapbooking, which became a constant hobby I continue to pursue. From collecting receipts and ticket stubs, I love turning a blank page into a story of my life using unexpected objects. Seeing the vision in ordinary pieces of junk to make a spread that encompasses my memories is a wonderful way for me to positively reflect on my life and manifest happiness. These creative experiences drew me to the unique nature of the Harrison Center’s valuable mission and vision.
I became aware of the Harrison Center as I was looking for a meaningful way to spend my summer doing something that I love. While looking at local nonprofits and art-related organizations, I stumbled upon the Harrison Center! I grew up always coming to Indianapolis with my cousin and spending the day roaming the streets with a bagel in our hands. The life and diversity infused in the city are so wonderful, as I have been able to meet so many different people who have taught me more about myself and the world around us. I am thankful for this internship and the lifelong lessons that I hope to apply to my creative future.
In the future, I see myself surrounded by creative minds working as a Creative Director or Marketing Manager for a fashion designer or retail company. I have always loved fashion and thrifting, which I decided I wanted a future related to. This internship is a window to all the innovation and artistic expression this city has to offer, and has provided me with a wonderful hands-on experience to interact with the community through graphic design and my creative visions.
