Meet Destiny
Hey! My name is Destiny Tims. It has been about a year since I began working as a video intern at the Harrison Center. I obtained my technical certificate in visual communications from Ivy Tech Community College. However, this upcoming academic year, I will make a significant change as an EMT student at Ivy Tech!
As a child, I had a range of artistic interests, including acting, singing, dancing, painting, and drawing; however, filming videos was my primary creative outlet. I always found that documenting my life through a camera lens helped me feel free, and it eventually developed into a lifelong skill.
Around this time last year, my pastor, Kyle Dickerson, a board member of the Harrison Center from One Fellowship Church, introduced me to the Harrison Center. I had recently graduated from high school and wasn't sure which path I wanted to take; my pastor knew about my passion for videography and introduced me to Joanna Taft. She liked my work and wanted me to join the Harrison Center.
I've learned a lot since I started working at the Harrison Center, but two major lessons will always be a part of my life. First, how to become a Cultural Entrepreneur! Throughout my internship, I have utilized skills I never knew existed, such as seeing a need, taking a risk, investing energy, leveraging resources, and networking. The second is making sure you are surrounded by a community! It is extremely important to have a community that loves and supports you. Since the beginning of my internship, I believe I have surrounded myself with an established and encouraging community. I am extremely grateful to the Harrison Center for this lengthy but insightful experience.
