Meet Sylvia
Hello! My name is Sylvia Eddy, and this summer, I'm working in the Polklore Micro Museum, a Harrison Center project that helps preserve important Martindale-Brightwood history and neighborhood stories. This museum is filled with meaningful artifacts and pieces of artwork representing key people, places, and activities in the memories of long-term residents. I'm excited to help organize and grow this collection of stories. Through my internship, I hope to learn more about how nonprofit businesses function behind the scenes and further explore the story of the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. I hope to better the community around me through my work here at the Harrison Center.
Growing up two blocks away in the Old Northside neighborhood, I have enjoyed First Fridays, IMAF (now Bloombox), and many other Harrison events since I was little. I have a deep love of story, whether expressed through visual art, theater, music, design, or particularly through words. I'm also interested in history and the story of urban neighborhoods, and I love how the Harrison Center has been cultivating community and preserving unique neighborhood stories. I have distinct memories of attending PreEnact Indy as a child, enjoying the murals beautifying vacant buildings, original theater productions, and creative preimagining of a thriving, storied neighborhood.
I'm a rising senior at Covenant Christian High School. In my free time, you can find me reading, writing, singing, hiking, and playing board games with my family; I'm also involved in my school's choir and theater programs. I started writing artist show blogs for the Harrison Center about a year ago and began volunteering at some First Fridays, which motivated me to do a summer internship at the Harrison Center.
