Meet Kya
Hi, my name is Kya Pruitt! For the past nine months, I have been interning at the Harrison Center, where I have gained hands-on experience in video production, editing, and storytelling. During my time here, I have enjoyed creating content that highlights artists, community events, and neighborhood stories while building my portfolio and developing my skills.
My passion for creating started at a young age, whether I was painting or making stop-motion videos with my dolls as a kid, but my heart truly lies with performing and media arts. Film and theater, having the power to amplify voices, can catalyze change and social justice. I admire how they bring people together to foster a sense of community. I find it fascinating how different types of artists can collaborate to create something cohesive and powerful.
Through my internship, I have been able to explore this by working on projects that celebrate the arts and share unique experiences, including filming and editing oral histories for the Polklore Micro-Museum!
This fall, I will begin my studies at DePaul University in Chicago, majoring in Film and Television with a minor in Communication and Media. I am excited to continue growing as an artist, collaborate with new people, and use storytelling to connect communities and highlight the importance of art in our society.
