Of Earth and Sea: Deep Diving Into Pain and Possibility |
In Emily Wingate's latest show, titled Of Earth and Sea, she invites viewers to take a breath and slow down. Wingate paints incredibly detailed close-ups of flowers, plant leaves, and water.
Because of her decades-long struggle with chronic pain, Wingate has had to learn how to make the most of the few hours that she can manage upright each day to paint. It was a quick and easy way for her to stay creative during her long hospital stays, as she sought to process her experiences and move forward as an artist.
"I want the viewer of my work to feel like they've just taken a break from the busyness of daily life and have a peaceful moment or two for themselves." Online Gallery | Blog

Hand-Spun, Wearable Wonders by Valencia Bullock |
This April, Lift Gallery proudly showcases Valencia Bullock's debut exhibition, Loopz. The connection of art and functionality inspired Bullock to start her own brand, VaDaBu. She uses plush and yarn to transform them into wearable art through shapes, color, and abstract silhouettes, pushing the boundaries of conventional material in fashion. Bullock began crocheting purses for herself, making something new and fun to wear just a few days before attending an event. While out in the city, people would stop her and ask about the bags, which inspired her to start her own brand. Own a piece of wearable art today!

Celebrating 10 Years of Porching With the IMS |
It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since our Porching partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway first began! As the greatest day in racing approaches, we’re looking back on porch parties across the city that have brought neighbors together.
Our Executive Director began porching with Herron Morton neighbors in 2007, and by 2014, it became a formal Harrison Center program that encouraged people to gather, share food and drink, and build community. The movement has grown ever since, expanding statewide in 2016 through our IMS partnership.
Sign up to host your own Porch Party and enter the official Indy 500 Porch Party Decorating Contest here! |
