Collage Culture
Paper, tinfoil, candy wrappers, magazine scraps, and paper towels – These are just some of the unconventional materials used in the 70+ collages on view in the Annex Gallery.
This exhibit shows many of the Harrison Center studio artists, including; Eric Lubrick, Cindy Wingo, Lorie Lee Andrews, Carolyn Springer, William Denton Ray, Emily Wingate, India Cruse-Griffin, Alice Rose Schwank, Quincy Owens, Caleb Macdonald, Kristi Marsh Watson, Emily Persic, Morgan Binkerd, Emo The Ctrlr, Elise Keitt, Johnny McKee, JD Bills, Mary Mindiola, Kipp Normand, Kate Oberreich, Lisa VanMeter Walls, and Kyle Ragsdale.
"I love bringing life to materials that wouldn't get to be used otherwise. Collage gives you the chance to elevate things we overlook every day.” Says Kyle Ragsdale, artist and senior curator at the Harrison Center.
While collaging is a consistent part of some artist's practice, viewers may be surprised at how collage brings out playfulness and an expansive side in many artists. Collage Culture is a celebration of the various artists that are a part of the Harrison Center– From studio artists, to staff, and even to interns. Just by stepping into the Annex Gallery, viewers can put their finger on the pulse of the creative energy that exists in this community.
