LAHI

October is Filipino American History Month. LAHI, a group exhibition curated by April Knauber and Jingo M. de la Rosa, celebrates the history, culture, and stories of Filipino Americans. This multimedia group show features thirteen Filipino-American Hoosier artists with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Their work is centered on identity, memory, and celebration of Filipino culture in America.

The title of the show, LAHI, means race, ethnicity, lineage, and origin. Each artist communicates their stories and experiences about the term through various media.

The work in this show does not shy away from the truth of history, nor the lived experiences of the artists. History, like life, is not always pretty, and the work in this show is not afraid to address it. However, the work in this show is also beautiful and celebratory. It is the truth of lived experiences that builds identity and creates a culture that carries on for generations. It is rich and complex, and it deserves to be celebrated. This is what the artists in the exhibition are doing in their work. There is a contrast visually in tone and subject. Diverse color palettes, diverse mediums, diverse styles, all coming together to create a beautiful exhibition to celebrate lineage and identity.

Artists participating in the exhibition are: Mike Achacoso, Chris Aragon, Kelvin Burzon, Isabelle Davis, Jenny D., Bryn Jackson, Cathy Gregoria M. Jackson, April Knauber, Lucia Marchal, Ploi Pagdalian, Phil Ramilo, Jingo M. de la Rosa, and Michael Williams II.
