Meet Sophia

Hey! My name is Sophia, and I am currently a junior at Herron High School. The Harrison Center is right by my school, but I've never really had a chance to volunteer behind the scenes or work with art. I'm really excited because I started as a music intern and am working to write and produce music about the community here, and I hope to get a chance to be more involved.

Since I was younger, I've always felt connected to the arts. I love all kinds of music, and one of my pastimes is discovering new music I haven't heard before. I also really like art for its role as a medium of self-expression and connection. I'm not always the most social person, but the beautiful thing about art is that you don't have to be social to connect with someone and hear their story. 

My main instruments are piano, guitar, and vocals, but I usually write for guitar with singing. Aside from making music, I love spending time outside, making CD mixtapes for people, and playing with my cat. Also, two of my favorite songs right now are probably "Higher Than the Stars" by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and "Michelle" by The Beatles.

Performing and writing are definitely my strong suits in music, so I'm really trying to learn more about the digital side, including mixing and producing. I would also like to learn more about the local art and music scene and learn from some of the people involved. Ultimately, from my time here, I'm excited to meet new people, serve the community and understand its history, and learn and grow both as an artist and as a person.
