Archives of Existence: New Work by Jay Parnell |
In Jay Parnell's show Dust, he not only explores the meaning of dust as something left behind, but also as something that records the very fabric of our environments, from the microscopic shedding of skin to the monumental crumbling of empires: "Dust is the ultimate democratizer." Parnell explains. He works with oil on wood panel in Dust, illuminating the quiet, often-forgotten moments in the aftermath of a moment waiting to become a memory. "By rendering the invisible visible, my art challenges the perception of dust as something to be cleared, reframing it instead as a poetic archive of existence and a quiet monument to passing time," Parnell concludes. Enter into his process through a new Studio Visit, shot and edited by Asa Gauen. Online Gallery | Blog |
Inside Yasha Persson's Collage Playground |
In her latest exhibition, Inner Peace on a Budget, Yasha Persson presents a collection of collages in which she has taken old photographs and reassembled them to create something new. In this show, Persson presents a range of work she has created over the years, in which she has solidified her signature collage style.
Each collage is created by taking these images and patterns, then digitally altering and overlaying them. About this process, Persson says: "What I love about working digitally is the room it gives me for extreme experimentation. Nothing is precious." Her mindset of seeing everything as an opportunity for creation and change is evident when viewers look at each collage in the show. Online Gallery | Blog

Storytelling Program Expands to the Classroom
|
Through an exciting new partnership with KIPP Indy, Harrison Center is expanding our oral history project by hosting Storytelling Drawing at KIPP with their Painting 2 students.
Our Artist-in-Residence, Andre Parnell, is supporting this work and teaching students about the Greatriarch program alongside several of our inspiring Greatriarch storytellers. Together, the class will explore how to identify and honor community contributors. Through interactive note-taking, storytelling, and sketchbook painting, students will learn to capture these meaningful stories on paper. It's an engaging, creative journey that combines artmaking, active listening, and a whole lot of fun.
