Shamira is a full-time artist who creates minimal abstract art that explores the repeat patterns of textiles. Her work alludes to the storytelling qualities found in narrative textiles and objects. Fusing similarities in the language of graphic design, textiles, furniture, and architecture, her compositions express impressions left by the contemporary domestic, built, and natural landscape.

In February 2020 Shamira is taking a journey to New Delhi, India for a 3 week international artist residency with Art for Change. In order to make this trip a success, she is raising $3000 to go towards travel and residency costs, and art materials for a new body of work.

While in India, Shamira and a handful of international artists and mentors will collaborate around the theme ‘What to Do with Difference’ while making artwork inspired by the cultural exchange.

When she returns she will make a new series of prints and paintings inspired by the journey from Indiana to India and is running an Indiegogo campaign where donors will receive a pre-release print or painting as a thank you for their contribution.

Shamira would love to have the opportunity to experience the cultural exchange that will happen from her first time traveling outside of the U.S. and she would like to bring the stories from her journey back home to Indiana by sharing them through art. All of the wonderful experiences from traveling will add fresh new flavor to her work, and help her think about ways to continue to build a smart sustainable art practice. This trip will be empowering to her as an artist because it will expand her horizons and imagination, and to you as a donor as you contribute to the local arts culture.
