Fresh off of Color, Shapes, and Form in Hank and Dolly’s Gallery, Rebecca Robinson brings the life of Downtown Indy right to City Gallery. It’s with great excitement that Harrison Center invites you to view Robinson’s show titled, A Stroll Through Indy! Showing at Harrison Center has been a dream of hers for quite awhile, and she is ecstatic to have been a part of the We Are Indy Arts show, and now showing on her own.

When discussing her artistic motivation Robinson states, “As long as I can remember art has moved me. Expressing myself with my artwork allows me to convey a thought, an emotion, a personal experience, or an important message. As an artist, it is my duty to push the envelope and create artwork that sparks a dialog and remains timeless.”

As a mixed media artist, Robinson has dabbled in many forms of art, but has recently found comfort in the challenge of using tar, metal, and concrete. To Robinson, her most successful pieces as of late have been these unique pieces, and each makes all the blood, sweat and tears worth it. “Over the years my medium of choice has changed dramatically. Most recently, I have been recognized for my use of concrete, tar, and white latex paint. I really love texture and depth. Working with cement was very non-traditional for me, but it opened up an entirely new genre of mixed media art that I learned to perfect over time.”

She hopes that through this exhibition, she can give viewers a feel for the “Rich history of downtown Indianapolis” through pieces made from concrete and/or cement. Robinson hopes as well that these pieces help us remember the importance of community and belonging.
