First Friday "Masquerade" & Gallery Opening

Friday, July 3rd, 2020, 6 pm-9 pm

FREE EVENT

The Harrison Center is pleased to bring three new shows opening Friday, July 3rd at 6 pm for social distance viewing—don't forget to bring your mask. In the City Gallery, Courtland Blade will present, “The Unheard: Indy's Response to Injustice.” Blade’s work captures spaces around Indy that are significant to our city’s current fight against racial injustice. This will be the first show in the City Gallery since installing a sliding glass storefront, modifying the space into an open air gallery.

In Hank & Dolly’s Gallery, fiber artist Lucy Burton will present “Confessions of a Joy Seeker.” This collection explores the tension between Heaven and Earth through woven microfilament banners.

In the Underground Gallery, photographer Emily Schwank will present “All at Once.” Schwank’s series features photographs that capture the Social Distance Porching movement during the Covid-19 quarantine in Indianapolis.

“When Strangers Meet,” mixed media paintings by Indianapolis-based artist Willard Johnson will remain on display in the Harrison Gallery.

All art will be available to purchase in person during the First Friday event and available for purchase in our online store beginning Monday, July 6. This begins a rhythm of giving sales preference to First Friday attendees and following with online sales options the Monday following the First Friday weekend. In person viewings after First Friday are available by social distance appointment (contact speacock@harrisoncenter.org).

The Harrison Center will also unveil new social justice themed art windows July 3. The “Social Distance Window Walk,” will feature a series of unique installations by local artists located in the windows on the perimeter of our building. This outdoor installation is open 24/7 for walkers & bikers to enjoy. Please observe all social distancing guidelines when viewing the exhibit.

With support from: the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Indiana Arts Commission, Christel DeHaan Family Foundation, and Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation.
