Katie Ito

Katie Ito is a multidisciplinary artist and chef specializing in pottery, sculpture, and food. Katie first fell in love with all things 3D over eight years ago when she took a high school elective ceramics class. Since then, her work has evolved into transforming paper and fiber into forms with sculptural qualities, challenging the viewer’s perception of traditional 2D mediums. Interested in artwork that is emotionally textured, Katie likes to create forms and images that renew, surprise, and delight. Katie describes her artistic style as an ongoing and mysterious dance between that which is decorative and functional. Katie graduated from Taylor University in 2023 with a BA in Art Therapy and holds a certificate in Culinary Arts from Ivy Tech Community College (2019).

Interested in the possibilities of co-creating in art, Katie considers her work strongest when made in community. In 2023, her senior thesis explored themes of kinship, co-flourishing, hospitality, and liturgy. Katie has collaborated with her sister and artist, Becca Ito on two Harrison Center pottery shows, In This Sign (August 2021) and For the Love Of (August 2023), and is excited to serve on the HC staff as our Community Engagement and Hospitality Fellow.
