Israel Solomon's Oasis of Abundance |
In his latest show, titled Oasis, painter Israel Solomon presents a collection of vibrantly colored depictions of various vessels, figures, and landscapes. With his first body of work created in oil rather than his usual acrylics, this show is full of rich colors and captivating scenes that together point to how much he has grown as an artist.
For Solomon, different vessels like bowls, vases, pitchers, and pots serve as a metaphor for blessing and abundance. They offer up an image of all the little things that we can each be grateful for in the midst of hardship. As viewers look at these pieces, he hopes they will take time to consider their own blessings as they ponder what could be contained inside each vessel.

Borrowing Space From Nature |
Amy Martin's work for her exhibition, Nature In The City, began long before the show was planned. Her inspiration came from a piece she started about five years ago, What If We Let the Prairies Grow, which focused on her front yard's native-plant rain garden and its transformation through the seasons.
Martin drove around Indianapolis, taking hundreds of photos where she encountered nature: trails, parks, front yards, sidewalk cracks where flowers grow, and the sky. She "began to see the city as borrowing space from nature and not the other way around." On one photography trip, she went to Crown Hill Cemetery and was greeted by a large planter with flowers covered in monarch butterflies.
"There really is no way of separating ourselves from nature," Martin emphasized. "When we take time to notice it, acknowledge that we are part of it, maybe it will be appreciated. People take care of what they value."

| Harrison Center Goes to the Fair |
Don't forget to visit the Arts Pavilion at the State Fair this month! From August 7–23, stop by the third floor for free Harrison Center programming, including art demonstrations, live painting, music, and more. Storytelling Drawing is also coming to the Fair! On August 13 and 20, our weekly Storytelling Drawing sessions will be at 1:30pm on the third floor of the Arts Pavilion.

A Perfect Week for Porching |
There’s still plenty of summer left to porch! Pick a date, invite some friends or neighbors, and gather on the porch to share food, drinks, conversation, and community.
What began as a weekly tradition with our Executive Director and her Herron-Morton neighbors in 2007 became an official Harrison Center program in 2014. Since then, porching has grown into a statewide movement, with hundreds of Hoosiers joining porch parties across Indiana.

Highlights From a Flavorful First Friday |
Thank you to everyone who joined us for August’s First Friday! Our building was filled with the sound of classical music and Bossa Nova, the smell of baked goods, and the excitement of witnessing vibrant, powerful works of art. Many guests enjoyed the novelty of Mini FoodCon, where unique methods of integrating food, sustainability, and art came together.
