Caroline Otto: Harrison Center Fellow

Hi! My name is Caroline Otto. I graduated in May from Covenant College with a B.A. in 2D Art, with minors in Music and Art History. I am primarily a printmaker, but I enjoy explorations in watercolor and oil painting. As an intern this summer, I had the opportunity to work on the Envelope Project, where I hand-printed 5,000 envelopes using three different wood and linocut block designs. I loved being able to translate the beauty and character of this building into tangible art that will be sent out to the community.

 I’m excited to continue my time at the Harrison Center and move into a new fellowship position in Venue Coordination! This summer was my first time living in Indianapolis, and as I’ve gotten to know the city, I have seen the unique role the Harrison Center plays in bringing people together. The physical spaces where we live, gather, and create are meaningful and become part of our stories. This building and its unique spaces carry history and hold stories. I’m excited to step into a new role to help create opportunities for these spaces to become the setting for people’s experiences. 

In my role as Venue Coordinator, I’ll be helping engage the community by offering our spaces for events, coordinating the details that make those events possible, and continuing to develop systems that allow us to serve our community well. I also get to help coordinate Art Dish, a fine dining experience curated by a local chef, where community members and patrons gather for  conversations with the featured artist in the Harrison Gallery. I am excited to use my artistic experience to bring a creative eye to the event processes here, and to continue seeking ways to bring beauty and thoughtfulness into our work.
