Meet Erin Shaw
Erin Shaw is a painter of borderlands, the spaces between worlds. As a visual storyteller, the child of an Oklahoma farm, Shaw tills the rich soil of dichotomy through her masterful use of color, iconography, and story. As a Chickasaw-Choctaw artist, she creates in a state of tension, suspended between two worlds where both solemnity and humor pervade her art. She earned her BFA in studio art from Baylor University and her MFA from the University of Oklahoma.
"I am currently doing a three year residency in OKC with a collaborative platform called Flourish. In the three years, I was tasked with ‘making the art I want to make, serving the platforms creatively and caring for artists in the city.’ It’s been an amazing experience and Flourish really wanted me to make a trip to Indy and see the Harrison Center. Over the years, many people have suggested I come and visit.
I am excited to meet artists working here, get a feel for the local art community and the good work being done in Indianapolis and am working on some small watercolor mono-prints."
