Meet Miriam

Miriam McAuley is an artist who primarily works in fabric painting and drawing. Having lived most of her life in Africa, she draws inspiration from the colors, patterns, and cultures she’s had the privilege to live in.

She uses bold colors and designs, leaning toward a stylized and whimsical painting style. She loves the history held in patterns, and the stories told by each lovely wrinkle in a face. If she can capture a bit of the beauty of an individual or place, enough for someone else to stop, observe, ponder, and delight, then that’s a success. She enjoys how art and creativity can open communication and provide opportunities for thoughtful connections with others.

During her 48-hour residency at the Harrison Center, Miriam enjoyed getting a glimpse of some of the community and story-based projects that the center is involved in, as they honor and uplift the community. It was also a great opportunity to meet other artists and learn about their practices. The 48-hour residency gave her a boost of inspiration to keep pursuing her artistic goals and dreams as she heads back to her own studio, as well as some new ideas of how to invite others into art making.
