Miss Pearl Goes to Paris

Last summer of 2025, Pascal Glock did an eight-week songwriting residency at the Harrison Center. The songs were focused on the people, life and culture of Martindale-Brightwood. Essentially, the songs were inspired by interviews conducted and activities undertaken with the network of Greatriarchs, who are living witnesses to the identity of the neighborhood.

One special moment was walking Miss Pearl back to her car and hearing her say, "You've not written a song about me!" Up to the task, and with a funny rhyme in mind, Pascal penned "Miss Pearl, my girl" as an anthem to the great Miss Pearl Carter.

Bringing the songs back with him to France, they found resonance with a French audience. Seeing the opportunity to continue the work of loving Martindale-Brightwood from afar, Pascal launched a three-day Martindale-Brightwood: Live in Paris festival and started a "Miss Pearl Mass Choir" of fifteen choristers and musicians to interpret the songs written during the summer. They played for an audience of a hundred!

From the success of those concerts has come three further opportunities to perform the songs in different churches and open mics of Paris.

Pascal Glock and the Miss Pearl Mass Choir will be the main act performing at an open mic the 24th of April in Paris.

The live album is coming out soon.

And yes, there is a life-size cutout of Miss Pearl touring the different sights of Paris. Martindale-Brightwood, shine bright!
