Connecting Music, Place, and Assemblage: |
Warren Beal finds inspiration everywhere–whether in blues music, padlocks on the side of the road, or the city of Indianapolis–Beal's finger is on the creative pulse of the world around him, and his world is full of possibility. All Night Boogie is an homage to the spirit of the blues and to the place Beal calls home.
Beal is an assemblage artist using found objects to create eclectic work that harmonizes together. Sometimes Beal will find an object and immediately know what he wants to pursue with it; other times he allows the object to reveal what it wants to him, sometimes years after finding it.

Explore the Unseen in Everyday Poetics |
Everyday Poetics consists of photographs taken in Chris Hill's birthplace of Oklahoma City and his current home in Indianapolis. His photographs often depict scenes from his daily life, and often in the overlooked.
Hill considers public expressions to be social affirmations of existence. As an artist, this is where his work begins. "My work primarily stems from traversing places by foot or bus, finding projections by and or for the marginalized in public spaces," says Hill. "I find social affirmations of existence especially important among the marginalized, who in many cases are deemed as insignificant or invisible."

NEIGHBORS: A Short Film by Danielle Pritchard |
This past fall, we were honored to welcome artist Danielle Pritchard for a 48-hour residency centered on the Polklore Micro-Museum and the surrounding Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. During her time with us, Danielle documented her reflections in a video capturing her firsthand experience.
"These matriarchs and patriarchs are a living record, testaments of local history and culture. Many still serve their neighborhood today, some in the prevention of cultural gentrification. They are a crucial part of preservation, and witnesses to important history. Polklore has begun the process of preserving this history, but the Greatriachs are still the neighborhood’s greatest archive. Thank you everyone who shared with me!"
We're grateful for Danielle and her time here! Click to read the full blog. |
